Résumé

Artist Statement

Moving at the Speed of Life: 2022
This is a year of continued thoughts, physical emergence, and unceasing movement.
I started several charcoal drawings at the beginning of 2021 with the understanding that I was advancing the energy I found in my familiar place, My City: Philadelphia.
Now, as things pick up, I am creating formal elements like brushstrokes that are both place, purpose, and speed, colors that are empirical and evocative, and lines that carry the viewer and me far away with attitude.
What were angles are now projections. Fast lines spread out and follow paths to the ends of thought, heights, and depth. This is my personal perspective. As I wrote:
I Am Living at the Speed of Life on all Fronts.
Much of what I learned, I have held close, kept with me for a long time.
Some of what I know, I have seen with my own eyes.
Most of what I have seen is still inside me.
To wit: refresh the pictures, the statues, the trees, the towering vaults, the heroes.
The most current picture of them I have, and carry it all in my heart.
