Fiber Art/Sculpture & 3D

Artist's Biography

Dot Vile uses found objects and cloth to play with themes of femininity, domesticity and her identity. She earned her BFA in Fiber from UArts in 2013. She was the 2014-15 Sculpture Artist in Residence at Millersville University and a full scholarship recipient to Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in 2015. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, namely in Philadelphia, Chicago, New York and South Korea. Dot lives and works in Philadelphia.

Artist's Statement

I see a relationship as a house. Man is built outwardly while woman is inward. Like a shell or nest, the inside and outside merge. An environment is created, physically and emotionally, that is both tangible and fleeting. Once pressure is upon something so transient, a bond will either show its strength or founder. If “identity” is something that is unchanging, what happens when a foundation is shifted?
