A Moving Image @ the AAM

April 1 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$5 - $8

On Saturday, April 1, the African American Museum in Philadelphia in partnership with BlackStar Film Festival is proud to present London-based filmmaker Shola Amoo’s feature film, A Moving Image.

Winner of the Special Recognition: Narrative Award at the 2016 Blackstar Film Festival, A Moving Image is a multimedia feature film about gentrification in Brixton, incorporating fiction, documentary and performance art. We follow Nina, a young stifled artist, as she returns to her community after a long absence – she is soon painted as a symbol of gentrification. As she struggles with her own complicity, Nina works to create a piece of art that can bring her community together.

This screening kicks off with an open gallery hour at 5 p.m. Following the screening, activist, scholar and artist Nehad Khedar will moderate a discussion and audience Q&A between director Shola Amoo and Church of Broken Pieces photographer, Shawn Theodore. Grab your tickets today!
