The Landscape before Me: Cape Cod
Jim was born and raised in Washington,DC. Educated at Penland School of Crafts and Cranbrook Academy of Art, and resides with his family and maintains a studio in the Philadelphia, PA area. Abbott has been engaged with freelance and fine art photography at all levels for over 25 years. From freelance architectural, corporate, landscape photography, to gallery director at Aperture’s first gallery, and later founder/director of Exhibit 231 an exhibition space/studio in Philadelphia. Abbott has been awarded numerous grants, artist residencies, and two Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowships. He has received numerous commissions, creating photographs for such organizations as the American Philosophical Society, the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Ballet, Fairmount Park Art Association, Center City District, and the Cranbrook Museum of Art. Abbott’s photography is housed in private and public collections nationwide, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Allentown Museum of Art, Cranbrook Museum of Art, and the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia. He has taught at the college level and executed three long term fine art photography projects: Philadelphia River Front / Ben Franklin Bridge 1982 – 2003, Site/Sight Lines Berlin 1988 – 1992, and The Landscape before Me: Cape Cod 2000 – 2012. He works in both digital and film based capture and prints in both darkroom and inkjet technologies. His web site has an extensive selection from each body of work and a full resume.
