Artist Bio
Rachel Citrino was born and educated in Philadelphia. Her studies include drawing, painting, and sculpture at Fleisher Art Memorial, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and The Clay Studio and Psychology at Temple University. Her studio is located in Philadelphia where she offers studio classes and workshops in drawing, and painting as well as gallery rental. Her annual workshops conducted in Italy offer independent explorations in personal artistic projects with opportunities to experience the sounds, sights and slow foods of the Abbruzzi and Tuscany regions.
An autodidactic and independent artist who has over forty years of exhibitions, Citrino is affiliated with the Da Vinci Art Alliance, Tri-State Artists Equity, Philadelphia Sculptors, Philagrafika, Vasto Writers and Artists Workshops and Mauro Corbani Studio Workshops in Scarlino. Her work has been included in Amici d’Italia collection at the National Museum in Warsaw and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Duchamp archives.

Artist Statement
I work in a variety of mediums because life is too short for limits.
Color is the foundation of my work in all mediums. After color the story emerges.
Exploring surface possibilities and the abstracted elements of the digitized photo to arrive at an image that has tactile depth has resulted in a new journey of intaglio monoprinting. An etched plastic plate becomes another layer of the image from the finished photo print. It was my goal to explore this during three weeks of intensive work in the studios of Mauro Corbani, located in Scarlino, (GR), Italy in September of 2009.
