Artist Statement

According to playwright Tom Stoppard, “Every exit is an entry somewhere else.” Just as life is a series of transitions and transformations, so also is the creation of art. My artwork speaks to the human condition of change and expresses the states and stages we undergo throughout lifetimes. It has focused on the attachments we claim and detachments we face. With time as a backdrop, my work emphasizes the changes made manifest by decay, ruin, reinvention and renewal. My goal has been to discover the beauty in transitions that occur as place becomes space and existence becomes story.

Printmaking affords me a way to combine process and medium, search out new methods, and experiment with mixed media. It allows me to integrate creativity with consciousness of social, psychological and cultural concepts, those that create currents of change in human life. My work is comprised of representational imagery translated into intaglio, relief and planographic prints, mixed media paintings and artist books.
