Artist Statement

My career in the arts began in the mid 1990’s after attending a long list of arts + liberal arts colleges. My early mixed media work and installations showed in galleries and alternative spaces in both Chelsea and SoHo, with representation by Stephen Gang and SAI Galleries. I then moved into a career in corporate interior design which gave me the life + business skills to organize my current career in the arts. After a short hiatus involving child rearing, I jumped back into the scene when I moved to Philadelphia in 2006. While I continue to work in mixed media, my focus during the past 4 years has been in fiber arts: specifically recycled and upcycled materials. Over this time I have explored the meaning of fibers, both emotionally and physically. I’m interested in manipulating fibers to create large scale works that break down into smaller scattered pieces, such as heaven + hell, which was debuted in November of 2009. Currently, I am writing proposals for installations which will debut during FiberPhiladelphia 2012 and Art Basal Miami.

Additionally, I am involved in working on a curatorial project that involves fiber artists, both living and deceased, for an exhibition highlighting the evolvement of fiber arts from a functionality and farm-based lifestyle, into the thriving contemporary fiber scene that has exploded into the American public arts plate.
