Artist Statement

In recent large-scale drawings of vernacular architecure I employ classicizing elements and unusual perspectives to draw out the embedded information inherent in all human-built structures. On this seemingly abandoned and portentous empty stage one can contemplate the history of architecture, the intrinsic humor of “bad” architecture, and the human experience within.

My paintings deal with similar themes in a more intimate way by presenting individual portraits of buidings with an eye towards beauty, humility, and the effect of the human hand in crafting appereance. In titling the work I borrow from the language of architecture to further add weight and meaning to these typically inconsequential structures.
