Artist Statement

I like my work to speak for itself. So I will just say that art in all forms is something us humans need to do. I particularly need to express the perfect imperfection of nature. That I think is what makes it beautiful.

I use the somewhat unusual technique of fusing metals within glass because it adds a vibrant spontaneity to my compositions. My discovery of this technique has evolved from having majored in ceramics at the Tyler School of Art. In my clay work, I often used a glaze called copper red for its vibrant red and purple hues. This led me to experiment with including roofing copper and copper pipes in molten and fused glass. I suspected this might result in similar hues. To my delight, the process produced similar reds and purples as well as a range of other colors such as orange and silver. I have been in love with the process since, and have improved it over the past 6 years. I now include brass foil and colored glass powder to complement the copper. The exact outcome of the colors and tones are unpredictable, making each piece inimitably unique.
