Artist Statement

In my collage-making practices, in which I use images from contemporary and vintage print media, I strive to establish an intimate conversation between the viewer and the work. The open-ended narrative that confronts the viewer calls into question both original and re-appropriated content and invites him/her on a journey fueled by the power of imagination.

For as long as I can remember, I have been deeply fascinated with the physical and social complexity of human beings. Cutting and re-configuring bodies within an imaginary environment, suggesting possible relationships and contexts, enables me to invent a world of fantasy, longing, isolation, regret, hope, despair: the very characteristics that make us human. Advertising imagery lends a banality to the drama, and I enjoy the undercurrent of humor that sometimes occurs.
