Artist Statement

I sense that a painting is a kind of table turned upright. I am placing things along the surface, playing with and dissecting these little ghosts, finding their relationships to each other and to me. We arrive into a world of the already processed yet never finished, and we’re reaching out to grab a few of those flexible items for a moment, to marvel at them and to contest them. So as a foil to this inevitable fate of readymade curiosity, I present myself with situations in which these pieces of memory, fantasy and reality are surrounding me, and I am trying to make them feel believable together in a painting. Often, I think about being a child, and how the child might play with pictures laid before her, and I see if I can approach this play with a similar sort of openness.
