What is an icon? Today we often think of an icon being synonymous with celebrity, yet there is something more, something intangible. A combination of image and subject that becomes indelible. This series is not about re-creation, but about how you recognize the reference. What is it about these images and how we recall them that makes them so resonant in our collective culture?
Limited edition archival pigment prints, available as 12” x 12”,
and 8” x 8”.
A playful façade for more serious questions: how do we eat; what do we eat; indeed, what do we consume and exactly what are we doing when we do it? How and why are these habits formed, and what are the consequences?
Limited edition archival pigment prints with lenticular lens (the image “flips” as you move past it), available as 36” x 36”, and 18” x 18”.
Grief. Depression. Humor. Healing. Is there light at the end of the tunnel, or…..?
Limited edition archival pigment prints, available as 14” x 14”,
and 8” x 8”.
Anna is a British born artist, who has been the recipient of many awards and has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She has lived in London, in Amsterdam and currently resides in Philadelphia, where she graduated with honors from the University of the Arts. Anna’s work has been described as rather ambiguous and conceptual, allowing the audience to interpret what they see in their own way. A common thread to her entire portfolio is the commentary on social, political or emotional issues that we face in today’s world, and how images persist in our minds.
Anna is exclusively represented in Europe by Wanrooij Fine Art.
Art. Science. Both in their own way have challenged us and shaped how we think about ourselves and the world around us. They have dared explore those things that we cannot see or thoroughly understand and have been a reflection of man’s ambition and imagination. This idea of art and science intermingling has fascinated me – the duality of two seemingly opposite forces coming together in a creative energy. It is this duality that I find so compelling, and I find that my mind is, in a way, divided exactly like the world saw (and sometimes still sees) photography – half art and half science.
What the viewer takes away from an encounter with any piece of art is, of course, unique to each person – however, what continually surprises me is not how different we all are, but how much we all share on some level. Throughout my work, I try to tap into that collective consciousness and play on our ideas and preconceptions. We have common ground, and yet there are multiple interpretations. My images are about the conversation we could have, the subtleties that exist within us – not a judgment on the topic itself.
