In My Body: Reworks continues the theme of the In My Body project, a multi-arts exploration of body image and self-perception, and celebration of body esteem. Reworks builds on the 2010 exhibition Leah MacDonald: In My Body, which featured a 20 year retrospective exhibition of encaustic photographs of women living in their bodies, by Philadelphia-based photographer Leah MacDonald. The exhibition was shown at Wexler Gallery. in Philadelphia. The theme of the In My Body project was inspired by Leah’s work and by the song In My Body, composed by Dan Martin, with lyrics by Michael Biello.
Creating a second exhibition based on a celebration of the body, InLiquid brings together Leah MacDonald (courtesy of Wexler Gallery) with additional artist members Susan Cunningham, Laurie Beck Peterson, Benjamin C. Pierce, and Heather Sincavage to represent more photographic interpretations and expressions of body image and self-esteem. In My Body: Reworks will exhibit 4 to 6 works from each of these artists to broaden the perception the audience experiences through the eyes of multiple artists examining the figure.
In addition to the In My Body: Reworks exhibition, a special collaborative dance, music, song, and visual arts performance of In My Body, choreographed and directed by Melanie Stewart and written by Michael Biello and Dan Martin, will be presented at the Painted Bride on January 22 and again on January 23. Information and tickets for these performances are available at the Painted Bride box office and online at .
The exhibition is supported by InLiquid and the Katherine Alexandra Foundation, the principal sponsor of the In My Body project.
