After School Art Program Teacher

Portside is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced art teacher who will instruct our 2016/17 After School Art Program. Portside’s After School Art Program (ASAP) will be held from September 7th – June 16th, Monday through Friday 2:00-6:00pm. The Portside’s After School Arts Program introduces children to the fundamentals of arts education through a hands-on visual arts curriculum. Portside is looking for a dedicated teacher who is organized and goes above and beyond to give our students the best instruction possible. All applicants must have experience teaching PrK-1st grades (4-7 years old.)

  • Must have k-12 Arts Certification or at least 2 years of teaching art in a classroom setting.
  • Must provide two recent references
  • Must have or obtain a criminal background check and a child abuse clearance.

ASAP Daily Schedule:

  • 2:00 Teachers arrive/ set up
  • 3:00 Students arrive/ Snack / Homework
  • 4:00 Visual art project
  • 5:30 Teacher clean up. Children Free play: blocks, puzzles & legos
  • 6:00 Parents pick up

Curriculum Information: 
Teachers are responsible for creating their own visual art curriculum. Some projects must include the following:

  • 21st century skills
  • exploration
  • processed based learning
  • artist exemplar / art history

Portside’s ASAP aims to awaken inner creativity, develop 21st century skills as well as build self-esteem and confidence. Teachers will be asked to create curriculum that allows students to experience many different art forms such as; drawing, painting, printmaking, clay sculpture, mosaic, fiber arts, puppetry, found object sculpture and more. We encourage teachers to show examples of artists work allowing students to develop an appreciation for artists, art history and other cultures.

ASAP Teacher Responsibilities :

  • Leading children in one-hour art project each day (projects can be multi-day)
  • Assist children with homework
  • Get our children’s snack / help clean up snack
  • Creating your own curriculum
  • Providing parents with updates on their child’s progress through Class Dojo App
  •  Walking the children to a local playground on Friday’s
  • Setting up and cleaning up classroom
  • Prep classroom for following day
  • Arriving on time
  • Directing assistant teacher, interns and jr. counselors.
  • Providing feed back for assistant teachers

Pay is $17/ hour
