Call for Artists: Turning Red
Artists of Pennsylvania respond to the 2016 election

Exhibition Dates: June 10 – July 29, 2017

Pennsylvania is considered a swing state though it had not voted for a republican in a presidential election for 28 years, until now. For artists living in Pennsylvania, that means a shift in perception as to the political and philosophical identity of our state. With reports that our nation is currently more polarized than any time since the civil war, we are becoming aware that the divide touches on all aspects of our lives, not only how we govern, but how we view our citizens and neighbors. Artists have always used turmoil and emotion as inspiration and fuel for creation. And it has often been said that the best work comes from the atmosphere in which we are now immersed. Turning Red seeks to give a platform to the voices of Pennsylvania artists who are investigating and commenting on the news of the day, varying opinions, and strong emotions surrounding the 2016 election.

Eligibility: Open to all artists who reside in Pennsylvania. Open to all media, work must be created in 2016 or 2017. This exhibition invites artists of all political opinions to submit works created in response to the 2016 election and the new administration’s philosophies and policies. Artists of color, artists with disabilities, artists of non-Christian faith, artists from immigrant or refugee communities, and other artists who feel vulnerable or marginalized as a result of our current political climate are strongly encouraged to submit.

Fee: $25 for 3 entries
