Deadline September 5: This position provides assistance to the Lead Teaching Artist for after school art education programming for middle school and high school youth. In conjunction with the Teaching Artist the Assistant Teaching Artist is responsible for facilitating a safe and creative classroom environment in partnership with participating students and the site personnel.
Roles & Responsibilities
o Provides instructional support to Lead Teaching Artist during after school programming at two sites (each site twice a week; four days per week in total)
o Assist with the set-up and clean-up for projects and/or activities
o Assist in preparing and delivering classroom instruction and occasionally leads classroom activities, under the guidance of the Lead Teaching Artist
o Act as mentor and role model for participating students
o Track classroom attendance weekly, using ASAP database
o Submit photographs and class overviews on the Mural Arts blog on a weekly basis
o Support timely collection of completed student applications
o Attend mandatory instructor lab meetings
o 3-5 years of experience teaching art to youth in middle and/or high school
o BA in Art, Art Education, or related degree
o Ability to work with diverse populations
o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
o Updated Child Abuse clearance, Criminal Background check, and FBI Clearance
Assistant Teaching Artist will receive $15 per hour for 17 hours per week. Position begins September 8, 2015.
