Deadline June 24:
The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center invites artists to submit proposals for SculptFest 2016, September 10 – October 23. The theme for this year’s outdoor exhibition is “Forecast Now,” guest curated by artist Taylor Apostol.
The 21st century has ushered in an unprecedented era of global awareness and interconnectivity. Artists continue to play a key role in the transmission of important current events through a wide variety of visual media. Through the artist’s visual interpretation we are able to view a snapshot of a moment in time. The theme “Forecast Now” encourages artists to respond to current experiences of weather. Investigations may explore any aspect of weather or weather systems (for example: precipitation, wind, drought, heat, cold, flooding, erosion, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.) or they may address the politics revolving around the critical issues of climate change and environmental sustainability. Artists may draw from personal experiences on any scale: local, regional, national or global.
Artists and artist teams are invited to submit proposals for sculpture, installation, video or performance to be exhibited on the historic grounds of the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland, Vermont. Artists are encouraged to visit the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center website for more information about the history of the grounds as a former marble quarry, www.carvingstudio.org.
Proposals should include:
A one-page project description, sketches, photos or other visual representations of proposed project;
Up to 10 images of previous works (emphasis on site-specific);
Artist statement (optional)
Applications are due Friday, June 24th, 2016.
