Artist's Statement
Cassidy Argo is a large-scale figurative painter who often incorporates textile elements into her work. Through painting, she uses the figure in space to create compelling narratives that raise questions. In her most recent work, her paintings lovingly reflect a haunted childhood. By setting up nostalgic scenes infused with eerie and paranormal elements she aims to create a blend between comfort and discomfort. Despite unsettling subject matter: themes of play, domesticity, kitsch, and a fondness for home are intrinsic to her paintings. To push feelings of comfort and domesticity even further, she addresses the sides of her paintings with a textile element. Stuffed with polyfil, her fabric exteriors are meant to be soft and inviting, as well as transform the piece into a haunted object.
