Artist's Biography
Born and raised in NYC, Rosalind Bloom attended what was then the High School of Music and Art, graduated with honors from the City College of NY and then received an MA in Art History from Columbia University. After relocating to the Philadelphia area, Bloom taught art history at Rosemont College and Villanova University and earned her four-year certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She eventually gave up the classroom for full time in the studio, and currently creates mixed media work that features collage and transfer print techniques.
In addition to being an artist member of InLiquid, she is active with the Women’s Caucus for Art, DVAA, and was a founding member of Assemblage Artists Collective. Her work is in both public and private collections, and appears in various publications.
Artist's Statement
Collaged elements, many cut out of older abstract paintings, mutate or evolve into fictional beings; vaguely animal, bird, insect, or human. These creatures play, converse, attract/repel one another visually and emotionally across the spaces between them. They remind us of how we interact with one another, our fellow creatures, and the world at large. The settings in which these “conversations” occur reflect my response to and concern for the natural environment. In addition to collage, transfer print and found images play an important role.
Art is all about transformation and it’s the process that gets us there. Where that turns out to be is often a surprise.
