Artist's Biography
Suji Kanneganti (b. 1993, Madison, Wisconsin) is a multi-disciplinary artist and curator working in Philadelphia. A background in science and psychology influences her process to be quite experimental, intuitive, and organic. She often employs material in ways that welcomes the effects of the environment (light, movement, temperature, etc), time, and/or viewer intervention as integral aspects to the work.
Artist's Statement
Trying to find a word on the tip of your tongue.
The awe of golden hour sun. A bee landing on your arm.
Emotions with no name for they exist in an in-between.
Nostalgia in a place you've never been.
I ponder universal and familiar, yet fleeting, human experiences, dissect them, and suspend them.
Using media to explore how the unseen—emotions, mindscapes, environmental energies—might manifest in a physical abstraction, I am curious to uncover the connection between our internal and external realities.
I work intuitively and experimentally, often avoiding preconceived framework, with the intention of channeling something deeper that exists beyond language and logic. My hope is for the artwork to stir something within viewers through a window of open-ended honesty. My hope is for viewers to explore that stirred space within themselves in order to connect to our physical worlds and one another more deeply.
