Woodblock Prints

Artist's Statement

I am a Philadelphia architect, artist and woodblock printmaker. I have been pursuing art since majoring in fine arts and applied fine arts in college. Recently, while attending classes at Fleisher Art Memorial, I developed an interest in woodblock printing. Although the subjects in my artwork have changed during this period, one common element in the work is my interest in expressing immediacy and the process.

More recently, I am concerned with viewing unknown space through familiar elements such as windows or trees or through abstract shapes. My mediums include acrylic on canvas, acrylic painted cut-out plywood shapes and woodcut prints on rice paper. In a few pieces, collaged newspaper print creates tension between known present social conditions and unknown abstract references. I am interested in the relationship of these elements and am influenced by artists work including that of Conrad Marca Relli.
