3D Animation
Artist's Biography
Zoe McCarthy was raised in the DC area and currently resides in Philadelphia. She has expanded upon her formal education in Illustration at the University of the Arts through a robust independent study of new media, 3D animation, and mixed reality. The digital worlds she creates are spaces for exploration and self reflection beyond a consumerist agenda, presenting a perspective of interconnectivity and challenging capitalistic ideas of personal worth and value. As a young artist pushing the boundaries of creative technology, her belief is that these exciting new mediums hold massive potential for community building and uplifting marginalized voices. Her creative fluidity and prowess have been recognized by her peers, professors, and institutions, and her work has been featured in a wide variety of unique shows and exhibitions across the country.
Artist's Statement
The scenery I create is reminiscent of body and earth, landscapes that have been deeply affected by capitalism and colonization. My practice considers the sentience of these environments and provides opportunities to explore them without the threat of exploitation. My creative process, much like my naturalistic inspiration, exists at the intersection of art and science. Working with 3D animation software and real-time game engines provides opportunities to both emulate and defy the laws of the physical world. Through a diverse array of artistic and procedural techniques, my work evokes subconscious realms and navigates power, pleasure, and shadow in the arena of imagination.
