Beauty in Renewal Series
Bicycles in Snow Series
Born in Kenya, educated in England and the USA, and now working and living in Philadelphia, I have been painting since 1996. I started by dabbling in photography, oils on wood, and watercolors. Oil has become my predominant medium. Painting is my way of pouring my soul onto a canvas, a spiritual experience that allows me to capture the pure energy and harmonious relationships of elements in life and nature. I’ve an impressionist style and use oils on canvas, paper or hardboard. I paint mainly nature scenes. The aim of my paintings is to express the resilience of the moment and hope for the future, by evoking feelings of peace and tranquility. Paintings that a viewer can walk into and feel the calmness offered in everyday ordinary views that we don’t always take time to stop and get enveloped by.
“Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.”
– Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Bhavisha’s art exhibits influences of several continents. Indian by ethnicity, born and brought up in Kenya, educated in England, and now living in Philadelphia, her art spans from landscapes of the African Savannah, to Urban Cityscapes, and Design Art with Indian motifs. A self-taught artist of over 20 years, she easily transitions from nature to urban scenes that carry a romantic, nostalgic feel.
Inspired, initially by works of Corot and Gustave Caillebotte, she has an impressionist / representational style. Bhavisha’s subject matter ranges form charging elephant bulls that roamed her backyard in Kenya; to cold snowy days, with snow laden tree branches dancing with each other in a show of strength, and stored energy for the spring; the awesomeness of a stormy sea that can be threatening and yet sustains us; empty serene urban parks; tranquil waters over a rocky river beds and more. Her art captures the beauty of our world and the harmony that exists in nature, life that is strong, calm, and beautiful.
Ultimately, she hopes that her art will help society see God’s glory in creation, respect nature and its power, and learn from it. More recently she has intertwined her inspirational writings with her paintings by hanging next to the painting a print of the painting with writings superimposed on the image. Her works have been exhibited in several solo and group shows and her paintings are in private collections around the world.
