Artist's Statement

Jay Edward Roth’s current work explores trauma, vulnerability and masculine identity. The imagery does not reflect specific events but rather how one manages traumatic memory over time. Themes of disorientation, anxiety, loss and hope are present as the images represent how one’s changing roles – like becoming an adult or becoming a father -can bring with it a deeper understanding of traumatic experiences, in some ways making one more vulnerable to that trauma.

The process of reconciliation is central to his current work. How does one reconcile traumatic experiences with what comes later in life? How does one manage the burden of traumatic experience over time?
