Artist's Statement

My work is based on careful observation of the world around me. My intention is to make visible hidden truths locked within physical form. I seek the unfamiliar within the familiar and to reveal significance in the seemingly insignificant. I am interested in a relationship between subject and the body, and a correlation between visual and felt experience.

My subjects confront issues of beauty and loss, strength and vulnerability, and change over the passage of time. Although the work is devoid of people, a human presence lingers. I see the instability of our contemporary environment as an indicator of our values. Through describing both absence and material presence, I highlight that which we have touched and treasured and that which we have abandoned, forgotten or lost. My intention is use convincing description, lush color and arresting composition to seduce the viewer and subtly undercut beauty with the unexpected, unsettling and provocative.
