Over the past year, Barbara Shelly has helped build an online artist community called Art Speak Collective. With the help of her talented partners Laurie Lamont Murray and Denise Jones Adler, the three of them created a space for artists to share their work and continue to create art in the pandemic. This passion project quickly grew, has become a PHYSICAL space called Pictor Gallery in the heart of NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood. Learn more about Pictor Gallery here!

Ever wanted to make your own prints? Come learn easy ways to make prints in class and that you can make at home with Bill Brookover. You’ll be exploring monoprinting, the painterly print. You’ll start with rolling ink onto Gelli plates, using leaves and simple stencils to make our marks. Then the class will move on to work on the etching press with oil-based inks, using non-toxic cleanup techniques. The class will explore additive, subtractive, and trace monotype techniques.

Ada Trillo‘s latest project, La Luz de La Libertad has won the 2021 Art and Change Grant from the Leeway Foundation! This project will educate and promote the rights of LGBTQ refugees who have been granted asylum or are in the process of getting it. Dependent on COVID restrictions, La Luz de La Libertad will become an interactive exhibit composed of conceptual photography and handwritten stories and a website providing information on the resources available in both the U.S and Mexico, in both English and Spanish. Join Miriam Singer in this online class for Fleisher Art Memorial that utilizes some of the materials you already have in your kitchen to print without a press. The class will cover monotype using a homemade gelli plate, relief printing using a linoleum block, and drypoint using a plexi plate. The class will go over creating prints from the combination of techniques by layering the covered processes. You will create prints using a 5” x 7” plate size. Drawing into your prints using colored pencils and watercolors will also be encouraged. The class runs on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:30 pm from June 22 through July 27, 2021. Register here!
Beadwork sculptor Leslie B. Grigsby wrapped up Manifold Global’s Portraiture Lecture Series with her Artist Talk on March 30th at 7pm EST. She shared more about her work, her background, and her off-loom bead-weaving process.

Ruby Green, Hip Hop Queen is a fictional story based on a real five year old girl, Ruby Green, and her brother Eli. They are both grandchildren of the author, and illustrator of this book, Andrea Lyons.This story takes place in Philadelphia,Pa., a city where Ruby and Eli live, and Ventnor,New Jersey, where they visit.The story begins with Ruby practicing Hip Hop with her brother Eli at home. Sometimes she dances outdoors too, like when she out danced her dog Sadie and when she’s with her friends and neighbors in their driveway. Ruby has a need to do Hip Hop really well. She wants to be as good as her brother Eli at Hip Hop.

Geoffrey Ansel Agrons has received the Juror’s Choice award in Animal Beings at Praxis Photo Arts Center. The exhibition runs from March 20 – April 3, 2021 and is juried by Laura Valenti.

Maria Schneider‘s “Walking OneCity” is now part of the permanent collection of OneCity Residential building. Each one of the 13 panels depicts the connection between some of the most iconic buildings of Philadelphia history. ” Walking OneCity” takes you in a stroll around Philadelphia finding its most iconic buildings, telling the story of what you see and what it may be now forgotten. Each mirrored panel draws the viewer in by including them in its reflection, making their image part of the work.
The Pandemic Diaries is a series of pointed, emotional and sarcastic word collages that bring together renowned artist Dolores Poacelli‘s many years as a fine artist and graphic designer, her abundance of opinions and her love of satire.These document her highly personal feelings about the global pandemic. A hand-picked selection of her 102 black and white collages, each piece has a visual attitude and a tactile quality like so much of her abstract art.

Arlene Solomon will be showing a 12 of her new works at Penn Medicine. These collages were inspired by the construction of Penn Medicine’s new pavilion, while also an homage to all those who helped construct it. These works are the result of over 700 photographs that Arlene took while going to appointments. Stay tuned for more details!
Cheryl Levin‘s solo show at Da Vinci Art Alliance, Forms for a Continued Life, is an exhibition of ink drawings by Levin, shown alongside sculptures and fragments by her late husband, metal worker Robert Phillips (1962-2012), and their son, Electrical Engineer and Generative Artist Aidan Phillips. The show runs January 28 – February 14 and is open by appointment only.
Kathleen Shaver is doing some great things this winter!

Her work is include in Visionary Projects’ virtual exhibition The Era of Change from January 20 – February 20.

She is also joining the international group of artists represented by Galeria Azur in Madrid, and is in their exhibition AESTHETICS from January 29 – March 1.
Donna Quinn, John Howell White, Lyn Godley, and Stuart Lehrman have a four-person show, Incubation, at Scotts Mills Gallery Studios from January 30 – April 3. Exhibition open by appointment only.

Andrew Chalfen‘s solo show, part of the Abington Art Center’s Solo Winter Series, runs from January 29 – March 13, 2021. Chalfen will give an artist talk/Q&A on March 13, from 10 am – 12 pm.
Susan White‘s solo exhibition, In the Weeds, will run from January 19 – February 25, 2021, at Millersville University in the Sykes Gallery. The show has two receptions: in-person on February 1, 5:30-7:30 (masks required); and February 22 at 7 pm via Zoom.

Join Austen Camille along with Evan Kassof and Andrew Litts in their project Theme + Variations on Field Notes. Camille walks the city of Philadelphia, from the lowest point to the highest point, while Kassof monitors her elevation and pace from the studio, and performs the information through a custom-built software instrument designed by music technologist Andrew Litts. The event takes place on LinoKinoTV’s Twitch on February February 7th from 10 am – 4 pm.
