Congrats to Geoffrey Agrons for being featured in Lens Magazine’s April Issue #91! In this issue, Lens Magazine features intimate stories and sensitive personal projects by award-winning international photographers from around the globe.
Francis Beaty is included in two upcoming Residencies:
1. Buffalo Creek Art Center, Gardnerville, Nevada, July1-31, 2022. She is planning on creating an outdoor sculpture that compliments the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains. The work will become a permanent addition to the center.

2. SARUYA AIR, Fujiyoshida-Yamanashi, Japan. Sept15-Oct15, 2022
Located at base of Mt Fiji. Four other artists join Beaty and they will be working with donated handmade paper from a local factory, followed by an exhibition.
11 Triptychs is a limited edition, signed, hand-bound chapbook with a hand screen printed cover that began as a correspondence between the poet, Sandra Simonds, and interdisciplinary artist and writer, Summer J. Hart. Sandra sent 11 of her triptych poems to Summer, who scanned the poems for lists of words, phrases, and visual impressions: columns of rock, fire, blood mixing with water, bodies entwined, Let’s Make the Water Turn Black. Summer responded with a series of abstract drawings in ink, salt, and other natural materials that absorb or repel water such as stones and breath. To echo Sandra’s three-columned poems, Summer worked in batches of threes. Some pieces are quickly recognizable as triptychs while others contain objects or creature-forms with threes as either the positive or negative space. Sandra and Summer picked 11 of the drawings, and over the course of several months paired poem to salt / salt to poem. These pairings don’t always appear side by side in this collection but are connected by their titles, each an appropriated line from one of Sandra’s poems.

All copies are hand-bound by Sandra Simonds and Summer J. Hart. The jacket was designed and hand screen printed by Summer in her Cold Spring, NY studio.
Christy E. O’Connor spent January-March, 2022 at the Martin and Lorraine Kaminsky residency program located inside Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, NJ. During the residency program, Christy had the opportunity to expand on her current body of work, On Love & Consumption, 20 new works in the series were completed. Status Symbol (feature image) was collected into their permanent collection.
LIFE Magazine asked Caroline Gutman to select photographs from their expansive archive that showcase women’s changing roles over the last century.

Inspired by the summation of “Black Lives Matters in US Schools, Race, Education, and Resistance”, D’nae created the chromatic abstraction PATTERNS FOR NEW HORIZONS (2021). Designed to manifest the end of all chaotic variables which make up a troubled world, the artwork explores theories of social equality as well as bilateral symmetry.

The American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) has acquired a piece by Philadelphia ceramic artist Jerry Bennett for its permanent collection. AMOCA is the largest ceramic museum in the US dedicated to clay art. Its mission is to increase the understanding of audiences in unraveling the creative thinking behind making ceramic objects as an art form.

The American Museum of Ceramic Art, located in Pomona, California, was founded in 2003 by founder David Armstrong. He fell in love with ceramics in the 1960s while a student at Pomona College and studied with the legendary Paul Soldner. This experience inspired Armstrong to collect the work of other ceramic artists.

Joseph Opshinsky‘s collage, “Tamaqua View,” was selected as Best in Show at the 17th Annual Scenes of the Schuylkill Art Show presented by the Schuylkill River Greenways NHA and hosted by the Walk In Art Center in Schuylkill Haven, PA. The show remains up through Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Over the past year, Barbara Shelly has helped build an online artist community called Art Speak Collective. With the help of her talented partners Laurie Lamont Murray and Denise Jones Adler, the three of them created a space for artists to share their work and continue to create art in the pandemic. Ever wanted to make your own prints? Come learn easy ways to make prints in class and that you can make at home with Bill Brookover. You’ll be exploring monoprinting, the painterly print. You’ll start with rolling ink onto Gelli plates, using leaves and simple stencils to make our marks. Then the class will move on to work on the etching press with oil-based inks, using non-toxic cleanup techniques. The class will explore additive, subtractive, and trace monotype techniques.

Ada Trillo‘s latest project, La Luz de La Libertad has won the 2021 Art and Change Grant from the Leeway Foundation! This project will educate and promote the rights of LGBTQ refugees who have been granted asylum or are in the process of getting it. Dependent on COVID restrictions, La Luz de La Libertad will become an interactive exhibit composed of conceptual photography and handwritten stories and a website providing information on the resources available in both the U.S and Mexico, in both English and Spanish. Join Miriam Singer in this online class for Fleisher Art Memorial that utilizes some of the materials you already have in your kitchen to print without a press. The class will cover monotype using a homemade gelli plate, relief printing using a linoleum block, and drypoint using a plexi plate. The class will go over creating prints from the combination of techniques by layering the covered processes. You will create prints using a 5” x 7” plate size. Drawing into your prints using colored pencils and watercolors will also be encouraged. The class runs on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:30 pm from June 22 through July 27, 2021. Register here!
Beadwork sculptor Leslie B. Grigsby wrapped up Manifold Global’s Portraiture Lecture Series with her Artist Talk on March 30th at 7pm EST. She shared more about her work, her background, and her off-loom bead-weaving process.

Ruby Green, Hip Hop Queen is a fictional story based on a real five year old girl, Ruby Green, and her brother Eli. They are both grandchildren of the author, and illustrator of this book, Andrea Lyons.This story takes place in Philadelphia,Pa., a city where Ruby and Eli live, and Ventnor,New Jersey, where they visit.The story begins with Ruby practicing Hip Hop with her brother Eli at home. Sometimes she dances outdoors too, like when she out danced her dog Sadie and when she’s with her friends and neighbors in their driveway. Ruby has a need to do Hip Hop really well. She wants to be as good as her brother Eli at Hip Hop.
