The 3rd Street Gallery is pleased to present Habitat and Urban Matter: Monotype Prints and Collage by Agathe Bouton.

Agathe Bouton is a French artist. She moved to Philadelphia two years ago, and is now based in Wynnewood PA. She works mainly in various forms of engraving, but also in painting and collage. She studied at ESAA (School of Applied Arts) Duperré, in Paris and has exhibited in France, Germany, elsewhere in Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa. Bouton’s work is displayed at the Gallery Martine Namy-Caulier in Paris, and is also in the permanent collection of the National Library of Paris. She is the recipient of a number of awards. Habitat and Urban Matter: Monotype Prints and Collage at 3rd Street Gallery is Bouton’s first solo show in the US.

Since leaving Paris 12 years ago, Bouton has lived in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Her work draws extensively from the cultures of the countries in which she has lived and worked. Bouton is inspired by the urbanism of Philadelphia. Her current work celebrates the totality of the cityscape, both the obvious beauty of its grand facades as well as the beauty found in its imperfections, such as broken windows and demolished structures. She also goes beyond brick and mortar considerations to contemplate the human element. Bouton states “These artworks are intended to evoke reflections on the lives lived within these spaces, and in finding beauty, making beauty, in the urbanism that surrounds us.”

Habitat and Urban Matter will run concomitantly with Priscilla Snow Algava’s exhibition, The Art of Being Alive.
