For Peep’s first exhibition with an outside curator, Chris Lucius brings together three artists distinctly working with paper in An Arcane Grace: Delphine Hennelly, Casey Jex Smith and Jenna Ransom. Delphine Hennelly references compositions of classical paintings to blur and obscure her subjects through repetitive line works. Her viewers are invited to contemplate the hierarchy of her subject. Is her subject the blurred figures or the ornate flower garlands? Casey Jex Smith’s meticulously detailed drawings, made from colored pencil and pen, pull from memories of Casey’s Mormon upbringing, passion for fantastical role playing games such-as Dungeons and Dragons, and a love for story telling. Jenna Ransom’s graphite drawings allude to forms such-as flowers, landscapes and creatures through a distinctive automatic drawing technique. Ransom resolves each work to allow for multitude of associations and an openness of meaning.
