In this one-time-only free workshop, PPAC Artist-in-Residence Amiko Li will lead an exploration of portraiture.
In this workshop, you will dissect the elements that construct intimate photographs. Starting with the “Self” as the most immediate and available subject, and then moving to the “Other,” this workshop will engage in the historical and social aspects of portraiture. Particular attentions will be paid to formal qualities (lighting, environment, lens angle) and conceptual backbone (power dynamic, hidden labor). In the end, students will learn about the tropes and challenges in portrait photography and the different modes between construction and capture.
