For about 15 years total, author and photographer Justin Coffin lived in Fishtown. He describes himself as being “more of an obsessive than an artist” and for 10 years, he focused on taking photographs of discarded Arctic Splash cartons in the Fishtown-Port Richmond-Kensington area. His fascination with the cartons as litter led to their becoming an emblem of the Fishtown/Kensington/Port Richmond neighborhoods. The photography project wrapped and Justin moved out of the neighborhood, but he didn’t feel like he was done, and after several false starts, he self-published a book of the photographs with accompanied text in essay and monologue, called Fishtown Forget Me Not. The images and text can all be found on Justin’s instagram page, fishtown_forget_me_not. And he’s sure he has a few copies hanging around somewhere.
