Rug hooking looks complicated and beautiful – colors and shapes and textures forming a picture together. The basic principle is simple, though: pull loops of wool through a backing. Join us for this beginning rug hooking class to learn the basics and get started on your own wool masterpiece! We will learn what materials are suitable for rug hooking and learn basic techniques. We will talk about color and backgrounds .We will also talk about the different tools used in hooking and try various tools for comfort. We will also talk about the history of rug hooking and how it has come to be what it is today. The instructor, Margaret, will bring in books and materials for students to look at to see the different styles in rug hooking and figure out what they’d like to try.
Materials fee: Materials costs are not included in your tuition, since they’ll vary a little bit depending on what materials you choose to incorporate in your rug. The average cost for a hoop, pattern, wool, pattern, and hook will be $60, payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Please bring cash or a check.
