Featuring: Carol Taylor-Kearney
Leaving Traces, an exhibition by artist Carol Taylor-Kearney, will be on view at Cerulean Arts Collective Members’ Galleries from September 18th through October 13th. An opening reception is scheduled on September 21st from 2 –5 PM.
Based on a quote by Walter Benjamin, “to live is to leave traces”, Taylor-Kearney takes a literal stand by incorporating found materials along with representational imagery in her artwork. The imagery is based on places that she has visited and is triggered by photographs that she has accumulated. Detritus and artifacts that she has gathered while experiencing a particular site become supportive accessories within the design.
“Traces are both marks we make like footfalls and fingerprints, shavings and crumbs, and the small items that call to us from the world we inhabit,” says Taylor-Kearney. She goes on, “Many people document excursions from daily walks to vacations in photographs while also collecting items to provide another level to ‘experiencing’.For me, in this work, this means memory and how the world has shaped me; for others, I hope an additional narrative layer is exposed.”
Opening Reception: September 21, 2-5 pm.
