Artists: Valerie Huhn and Amanda Thackray
Curated by Jo-El Lopez
February 10 – March 16, 2018
Opening Reception February 10, 7-10 PM
The general sentiment that art should move the viewer, provoking some type of emotion, can be made considerably more specific when urban viewers can vote with their feet, deciding to stop and contemplate a storefront art installation.
Artists spend a lifetime searching for that moment in their process when their creation has the capacity to move someone. Both Thackray and Huhn use intensely labor-intensive processes, with works on view the distillation of hundreds of hours of solitary time, now shared with Activate: Market Street’s varied, ambulatory audience.
Each window provokes the viewer to explore movement and feelings, if only for a moment. Catching Feelings offers experiences for as long as is desired, with light and time of day creating constant, small changes, much like a mood.
