Starting 12 Noon on October 31st, Gallery Aferro honors a year unlike any other with its 12th Annual Benefit Art Auction. This year’s theme — Change is Constant — is not only a tribute to the resiliency and ingenuity of the artistic community and its enthusiastic art lovers and art buyers, but a recognition of our own determination in the face of adversity. No stranger to embracing innovation, the Gallery Aferro auction is being held online this year at …
Creative collectors and aficionados can bid on any of the more-than-75 artworks online, or make an appointment to stop by the Gallery and view a select number of prints set aside for our “Cash & Carry” option. And if you’re someone who prefers to view the work up-close-and-personal before you bid, you too can make an appointment with the Gallery to stop by and view artwork in person before bidding online. Just keep in mind, someone may be bidding on the piece you adore while you’re taking a closer look.
But before you fear there’s too much change too quickly, Gallery Aferro is continuing last year’s addition to the Aferro fundraiser: payment plans. Available for print artworks in their Cash & Carry option, as well as a special alternative for specific bids, contact a Gallery Aferro staff member to learn more about the payment plan options available.
The Spartan AirB&B
In addition to the fundraiser taking place in the virtual world this year, Gallery Aferro is offering another new treat for one lucky bidder — a weekend getaway in a vintage Spartan Royal Manor AirB&B in the Catskills!
The year 2020 will definitely be one for the history books, and most of us would agree the stress has left us in need of a holiday away from it all. With an eye on our collective need for art, community and wellness, for the first time, the Gallery Aferro auction will include a weekend stay at a renovated 1955 Spartan Royal Manor Camper in Spring 2021. Artists can use the space as a mini-retreat to work on their next project. Art lovers can use this unique retro space as a much-needed respite away from the hustle and bustle of life in the city. Simply bid on the weekend getaway the same way you would bid on a work of art in the auction.
As with every year, the auction fundraiser will help Aferro create new innovative projects, including an upcoming interactive poetry phone booth and multi-interdisciplinary events, and maintain popular programming, such as artist talks, educational outreach, publications, legacy work for women and LGBTQ+ elders, and year-round exhibitions featuring established and up-and-coming artists, as well as Newark’s oldest ongoing artist workspace program. Last year, thanks to donor and community support, the residency program expanded to offer two fellowships designed to serve underrepresented groups in the arts community — artists who are parents and women-of-color artists.
“The world is changing. And artists have always been at the forefront of change … Aferro is now in its 17th year as a woman-led artist space bridging inclusivity and discovery, while holding space for grassroots community initiatives, and for all who wish to support,” said Gallery Aferro co-founder Emma Wilcox. “Our core belief is that art is for everyone.”
