On September 17, 2,379 days will have passed since the Syrian uprising on March 15, 2011. The staggering death toll and displacement of Syrian people continues.
Join the Penn Museum for an interactive community project with Issam Kourbaj, an internationally acclaimed Syrian-born artist, in a powerful exploration about his homeland. Throughout the afternoon, people of all ages are invited to join in the creation of 2,379 small tin foil and plaster boats. At 5:00 pm, the boats will be incorporated into a live-streamed performance of Kourbaj’s video piece “Strike.”
Dark Waters workshop and performance are FREE in the Museum’s outdoor Stoner Courtyard; the related exhibition Cultures in the Crossfire: Stories from Syria and Iraq, featuring contemporary art by Issam Kourbaj, is free with Museum admission.
