Join the Fleisher/Ollman Gallery for a conversation about David Byrd’s life and work with Fleisher/Ollman director Alex Baker and Jody Isaacson of the David Byrd Estate.
In 2012, artist Jody Isaacson introduced herself to David Byrd after years of passing the artfully arranged objects in his yard in rural, upstate New York. Byrd invited her in to his home and studio, where a lifetime’s cache of the artist’s paintings, as well as several sculptures, were stored both on the walls and stacked in piles wherever they could lean. Their friendship was born, and Isaacson, along with her colleague, Jessica Farrell, began to find exhibition opportunities for Byrd’s work, which had never been shown in public. Since his death just nine months later from advanced lung cancer, Isaacson and Farrell have continued to promote and travel Byrd’s work.
