The newest exhibition coming to Stanek Gallery is Disrupted Realism: Reimagining the Figure, featuring paintings from Jacqueline Boyd, Martin Campos, Stanka Kordic, as well as sculpture by Rolf Jacobsen and Katherine Stanek. The opening reception is July 2nd, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The exhibition will run until August 14th. The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm or by appointment.
Four years ago, Stanek Gallery introduced the world to the term “Disrupted Realism” in an exhibition with select influential figurative artists from around the world. That display inspired a book by the same title and launched a series of exhibitions in galleries across the country. Scholar and author John Seed, first used the term “Disrupted Realism” to describe “…artists re-ordering the appearances of their subjects as a way of entering them and endowing them with varied intuitive and personal meanings and associations.”
This summer, “Disrupted Realism” returns to Stanek Gallery with artists whose unique approach to depicting the figure in their work reflects the dynamic nature of the contemporary human experience.
