Master Artisans like Heather Stief bring their finest handmade craft to the show, ensuring that craft lovers and collectors discover products of excellent workmanship, creative vision, and unique style. The 2013 October Rittenhouse show was Stief’s first “big” fine craft show, when she joined the Guild as a part of the EMERGE program. The sophisticated patrons in Rittenhouse Square received her work with enthusiasm and Stief had her first glimpse that craft could be her full-time career.
As a fine art major in college, Stief concentrated in Graphic Design and minored in Craft. After graduating, she worked as a Graphic Designer for seven years. With this influence in mind, Stief moved towards her second career, and became a full-time metalsmith; the graphic quality infused into her work is evident. While her jewelry is often inspired by shapes found in nature, her process involves the distillation of these shapes down to abstract but recognizable organic designs; a similar process required when designing logos. “Combining metalsmithing with a designer’s eye has been a refreshing challenge for me,” says Stief, and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen is honored to represent her work and all of the exceptional craft from our exhibitors, in this fall Fine Craft Show!
