Show runs through June 30th.
Space 1026 is proud to present a three-person exhibition with Brooklyn-based artist Joanna Fields and Philadelphia-based artists Angela Rio and Jenna Robb entitled “Freak Accident”.
Surrealist clowns, spiky abstraction, and psychedelic dogs abound in the collective work. Depicted through collage, colored pencil, ink washes, painting and screen printing, these works on wood and paper, using the aesthetic of the flaw with exact compositional intention, create a candy colored freak-out where darker and anxious themes are examined with happy and soothing colors.
Joanna Fields studied textile design at the Rhode Island School of Design and live is Brooklyn. Her large scale kaleidoscopic drawings straddle the gap between horror and comfort through their particular blend of abstraction and familiarity.
Angela Rio lives in Philadelphia and has a BFA in Illustration from University of the Arts. Rio’s work often alternates between three-dimensional sculpture and two-dimensional collage. Her collages transition into screen prints and paintings that embody a stressful state of mind executed with an exciting and joyful color palette.
Jenna Robb is an artist and designer in Philadelphia. She earned a BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design, and her artistic process is informed by methods of textile making — namely the untold variables in the screen printing process.
