Join us at the University of the Sciences for Heart of Gold, featuring an evening of artwork and art experiences in a live and silent auction, light dinner, signature cocktails, an open bar and dancing.
The Arts League is delighted to announce that Heart of Gold will honor the important contributions Leo Sewell has made to the artistic community and the University City Arts League. Leo’s work and a tour of his studio in Powelton Village will be a feature of this year’s live auction.
Leo Sewell is a locally-based “found-object” artist whose fanciful sculptures composed of “junk” have garnered national attention. His works are collected by corporations, museums and individuals throughout the world. Leo continues to cull the refuse of Philadelphia out of which he fashions pieces of all sizes, from a life size house cat to 40-foot installations.
To celebrate 50 years of the Arts League we have also asked 50 artists to create miniature paintings. In addition to Leo’s work our live auction will feature substantial works by artists Miriam Singer, Mary Henderson, Tyler Wilkinson, Trina Turturici, Leroy Johnson, Teresa Haag, Wiley Searles and Mike Geno. Our silent auction will feature cultural experiences from throughout the city. Express your love of art by helping the Arts League in its mission to encourage and support the development of the arts in our community.
