Are You Sure You Can Do That?! Guess what? If you could have done that, you would have done that.
Join Rush Arts Philadelphia and Upper Darby Art Gallery at a group exhibition of new works featuring abstract artists at two galleries. “I Kan Do Dat” will run at both galleries from March 29, 2019, through May 3, 2019.
I Kan Do Dat explores contemporary abstraction through drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and sculpture across different mediums. The show’s concept was conceived by Danny Simmons in response to viewers looking at abstract work saying “I can do that.” The viewer may think they’re seeing an unorganized combination of shapes and colors when the work of art is an intentional thought-provoking masterpiece created by the artist.
Curated by Danny Simmons and Noah Smalls, the exhibit showcases the range of abstract expressionist art. Twenty-five artists will be featured in the show: Kara Mshinda, Lance Johnson, Sarah Hall, Alma Roberts, Greta Chapin-McGill, Al Johnson, Grace Graupe Pillard, Cullen Washington, James Chism, Robert Smalls, Wanda Payne, Juan Gomez, Al Santana, Lisette Morel, Sheena Vaughn, Joe Bell Bey, Jerome China, Gina Samson, Femi J. Johnson, Bryant Small, Miriam Brumer, Dawn Stringer, Dakoro Edward, and Lamerol Gatewood.
