Jesse Krimes is excited to invite you to join him in Chelsea on September 13 from 6 to 8 pm at the opening of his newest exhibition, Strange Roots, presented by Burning in Water Gallery – New York.
The works in this exhibition represent continuing investigations into some of Krimes’ work’s enduring themes: how contemporary media influences our perceptions of individual and collective selves, and the ways in which these perceptions shape or reinforce both mechanisms of social power and control and conceptions of freedom and justice. He began the investigations that would ultimately culminate in this show with extensive research into Google’s digital image search algorithms to examine how an array of socio-political, historical and cultural themes were reflected back to him. Krimes was fascinated by the way in which inquiries into complex or fraught subjects registered as a seemingly endless, iterative stream of algorithm-mediated imagery.
