“Water is a powerful force in the images of this show whether water tumbling over a cliff, flowing in a stream, being blown by the wind in the waves of the ocean, or as the home of a variety of living creatures. Photography literally means “light drawing” (photo+ graphics). Each of these photographic images comes from the natural world. We are learning more and more that our contact with nature enhances and enriches our life since we are part of nature. Nature provides a different kind of energy than human made environments. The images here are meant to inspire awe and an appreciation of the beauty of nature, our true home, so that we give it the respect that is due.
Water is no different whether the water of a gentle mist on a foggy morning or the water in a hurricane or the water that comprises over two thirds of our physical bodies. All water, which is essential for life, is made of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. That hydrogen, the most plentiful element in the universe, was made at the beginning of the universe. The oxygen was made in the stars. To put that in context, we are part of the universe and cannot escape that. We are relatives of everything in the universe and carry within us the natural intelligence of that relationship. As we come to know ourselves fully, to look beneath the patterns of society that appear to determine our lives and often look frightening, we gain strength to look at a larger picture and recognize our kinship with the entire natural world.” –Andy Smith
