After obtaining a degree in landscape architecture in Korea in 1988, Kim came to the USA seven years ago to study painting. She earned her BFA at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2017. One of her passions is nature and in particular the Sycamore tree. She was dissatisfied with her early efforts to paint realistically, and used design and her enthusiasm to paint her beloved trees. Over time her technique improved, yielding more realism to her subjects, but viewers seemed to respond better to her earlier paintings. After reflecting on her work, Kim realized that although her technical skills had much improved, her work was missing a soul.
Now, after seven years, Kim feels the first part of her journey is complete: she is able to speak from the heart while using her artistic skills to the fullest. The result is color-rich and expressive new artwork that tells Kim’s passionate story about the Sycamore trees and represents her best work to date.
MRAC is excited to share the results of this creative journey and invites you to join us for the Opening Reception on Sunday, March 4, 2018, from noon to 3 pm. The show continues at the MRAC on March 10 and 11, 2018 from 11 am until 3 pm.
