An exhibition exploring the work and influence of Blackburn, a Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art graduate and lecturer who’s long career had an impact on generations of students at PAFA. Blackburn’s Modernist works have been collected by museums internationally and this exhibition will include a survey of his paintings on canvas and paper, along with a selection of prints. Blackburn was among the earliest artists to employ screen printing as a fine art medium. Among his former students included in the exhibition are Bill Scott, Stuart Shils, and Louis Sloan.
This exhibition was organized in collaboration with Dolan/Maxwell and Brookdale art history professor, Marie (Naples) Maber. Marie studied with Blackburn at PAFA and wrote about his work in graduate school. Marie worked with us at Dolan/Maxwell in the 1980s and we’ve very mcuh enjoyed working with her on this exciting project.
Opening Reception is Friday, January 24th, 4 – 7pm
