On view now through the end of the year, guests to the Kimmel Center can enjoy the work of British artist Julian Opie. The works are loaned by the West Collection at SEI and were made by Opie between 1996-1998.
Julian Opie (b. 1958) is a London-based artist most noted for his flat and graphic style that creates tension between the simplicity of the images and how the audience recognizes and interprets his objects and paintings. This exhibit has glossy representations of a popular red Volkswagen car, oak and cypress trees, as well as Opie’s brother in law Keith, all so simply rendered that they almost appear as generic.
SEI is a financial services company located in Oaks, PA. Founder Al West and his daughter Paige have built the West Collection over the last 20 years with SEI employees, clients, and visitors in mind. SEI is a long-term sponsor of the Innovation Studio at the Kimmel Center.
