OUTBOUND: A Pop-Up Gallery @ MOTO Designshop

November 4, 2016 - November 5, 2016

Event Navigation

November 4 – November 5

On November 4-5, to coincide with First Friday, SPOKE magazine and MOTO Designshop host OUTBOUND: Mobility, Community and the Future, a pop-up gallery that will deal with the intersection of art, design, social justice, urban mobility, and the future of Philadelphia. More than a dozen local artists contribute their work.

The exhibition features work that uses futurism to address contemporary social issues. Futurism has historically served as an outlet for artists to discuss complex societal relationships. Italian futurists of the 1920s fixated on emerging technologies through painting and architecture. Afrofuturists in the 1970s pioneered visions for black empowerment through music and performance. Some contemporary feminists have turned to futurism to assert identity through poetry and literature.

Saturday evening, a handful of visual artists, urban designers, architects, data geeks, and more will give rapid-fire presentations about their work.

Attendance is free. Refreshments available.
