“We humans, with our constructive and destructive behaviors,
we are all nature. Nature restless, overwhelmed trying to
balance the destruction”
– Liucija Dervinyte

The collage pieces in the Earth Tales collection by Liucija Dervinyte contain
a deep environmental message and invite us to think about the hyper consumption of resources
natural, environmental pollution, animal extinction, among others.
Materials are resignified through artistic action by reusing them to create
art and reflection. The Lithuanian artist by using recycled materials and playing with light also
reveals a glimmer of hope. Understanding the environmental crisis that afflicts us and
questioning it sensitively will connect us with our integral relationship with the world.
We are part of that whole and therefore our action can have a positive influence.
At the same time, Liucija creates sublime forms, where she emulates a certain nostalgia for the
sweet forms of flowers and plants. The embroideries recall the tender pistils,
that are intertwined to give way to the flower buds. The lines and
colors lead us to a reverie of figures and textiles.
In the phrase “when the world forgets,” contained in one of the pieces, the artist wonders
about what we have forgotten as humanity, at the same time launch a
visual questioning that contrasts nature with urban figures that
represent the passage of man, who has destroyed and consumed much of the
natural resources of the world he inhabits.

Through Liucija’s work, topics such as migration, the
global warming and deforestation whose importance is vital for our present
and future. It will be necessary to consider the relevance of these issues being addressed by the art and how they sensitize us in a world where technology, networks and images
digital have been displacing reality. The sublime beauty of nature is
emulated in the pieces that make up this collection as an act of remembering and
return to the most natural origin of shapes and colors.
