POP! The Print Center Benefit Auction is The Print Center’s major annual fundraiser: the Main Event will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 6pm, with a Champagne Reception beginning at 5pm. All bidding closes at 8pm. There will be an Emerging Collectors Preview on Wednesday, December 4, from 5 – 7pm, and a Public Preview on Thursday, December 5, from 12 – 6pm. The Print Center, founded in 1915 in Philadelphia, is a nonprofit art organization that has been dedicated to supporting print and photography for more than 100 years.
This year, the Benefit is held in tribute to Robert J. Morrison, the significant Philadelphia collector of Pop art prints and other treasures, who was a committed and active member of The Print Center’s Board of Governors. He began his relationship with The Print Center shortly after his arrival in Philadelphia in the 1970s. He hailed it as a unique resource, offering challenging exhibitions and compelling artist talks – and providing an emotional and social home for artists and collectors, as well as a platform for personal growth and free exploration. This event will continue his passionate dedication to building support for the artists and collectors.
The Honorary Guest Curator for the Benefit Auction is Jacob Lewis, President of Pace Prints, the renowned New York gallery. Artworks will be up for bid on Paddle8.com and at The Print Center. They include photographs and prints by outstanding artists such as Keith Carter, Joan Wadleigh Curran, Rebecca Gilbert, David Graham, Kay Healy, Jasper Johns, Sarah McEneaney, Odili Donald Odita, Tim Portlock, Richard Renaldi, Paula Riff, Qiaoyi Shi + Amze Emmons, James Siena, Rafael Soldi, Rodrigo Valenzuela, Andy Warhol, Hiroshi Watanabe and Didier William. A selection of artist books and specialty items will also be offered. The exceptional quality of the works donated to benefit The Print Center is a testament to the high regard the organization has among its colleagues. Proceeds from the event directly fund all of The Print Center’s ambitious visual art and education programs, highlighting the most compelling work in photography and print of local, national and international scope. Bidding begins on November 23, 2019.
We strive to bring exciting opportunities to collect the finest works in print and photography through our benefit auction. This year we pay tribute to Robert Morrison, an outstanding collector and board member, and are delighted to have the prominent gallerist Jacob Lewis as our honorary guest curator. We are excited to add a special preview for emerging collectors, continuing Morrison’s passion. The benefit auction provides exceptional artworks and a great party, all in support of Philadelphia’s own, internationally renowned, Print Center. I am delighted to share the amazing works we have received with collectors all over the world!
